I can go anywhere in the continental us, but i live in chicago, so somewhere close would be preferred, but not a big deal. the budget should be about what a middle class family could support. its just going to be me and my mom going, i think. somewhere relaxing with shopping centers and salons…and with maybe the hotel being by a forest. if possible.
or, just say what the best vacation u’ve had was at.

The best vacation I’ve ever had was in San Antonio. While it’s not exactly close to Chicago…It’s worth it! The RiverWalk can entertain you for a week straight. There are big outdoor & indoor malls, TONS of good restaurants with all types of food, plus plenty of history to enjoy. The only downside is, it can get pretty hot down there! I would suggest taking half the trip East on to Houston/Galveston. The beaches in Galveston are very nice! :)

If you want to be pampered and have a lot of shopping/salons/restaurants – go to Las Vegas.

The two best US vacations I’ve taken were road trips, one up the coast of Maine on US Rt1, the other was similar trip from Santa Cruz, CA up to the Oregon boarder on California Hwy1, a.k.a Pacific Coast Hwy. In both cases we had no agenda, time table, reservations, expectations. We just took in what we discovered on our own.

Lake Tahoe might be another alternative, similar to Las Vegas but in the Sierra and the lake is beautiful.

Florida still has the best beaches for me. Three of my friends and I drove to St. George Island which is a barrier island with serene beaches excellent for swimming and water activities. We rented a beach front condo for three days. Since all of us are outdoorsy types, we tried hiking and observing wildlife at St. George Island State Park and we also went sailing, snorkeling and boating. St. George Island has nice art galleries and book stores while nearby historic Apalachicola has unique antiques, jewelry, and clothing. Plus, the food – especially the seafood was great! Miss the juicy oysters and beer!

One of the best places I have the opportunity to visit on vacation in the United States is Hawaii. I know its a bit far from Chicago but there are some great deals out there to save you money and some offer free nights as well. Check out some of these sites:

    * Aston Hotels and Resorts has discounts of as much as 40% when you book anytime through June 11, 2009. Properties as low as $80, and the “Kids Stay, Play and Eat Free” program is available to families year-round.

    * Outrigger Condominium Collection offers their guests a third night free for staying at any one of its condominium resorts on Maui, through Dec. 21, 2009. Rates start at $185. Guests who stay at any of Outrigger’s Maui condominiums for five consecutive nights receive grocery certificates.

    * Diamond Wailea Resort Spa is offering a $0-per-night promotion until Dec. 31, 2009: Stay three nights and the fourth night is free. Rates start at $169 for a 900-square-foot garden view suite, a savings of $210 per day. What better offer can you find out there?

Hawaii has immense forests, jungles, and of course cannot forget to mention swimming/surfing spots in the world.

I hope you find the best vacation spot for you and your mom this summer. Have a good one and stay safe out there.
