if you like being active try hiking around Tasmania (southern most part of Australia). Some AMAZING scenery and lots of other cool stuff to do if your not into hiking. And the only reason im suggesting Tassy is you said off the beaten track, most people go to the gold cost or sydney when they come to oz, i think Tasmania gets overlooked too much… thats my 2 cents. Costa Rica is really nice. And hot during our winters. It’s totally safe.. They don’t even have a military. I was on the Caribbean side and the interior, by the capital. I think the northern part on the pacific side is good for surfing if you’re into that.
